Overview

Emotions are not just a matter of the heart. Research has shown that they are also a result of brain biochemistry. Emotional signals in the brain are felt throughout the body—in the gut; in the heart; in the head, neck and shoulders; and so on.

Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to perceive, understand, manage and handle emotions. People with high emotional intelligence can recognize their own emotions and those of others, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, and adjust emotions to adapt to environments.

People with high EI have greater mental health, job performance and leadership skills. By focusing on managing your emotions under pressure, this program enables you to increase your personal leadership skills by learning how to manage your emotional brain in your most difficult moments. This skill will allow you to influence and engage others and connect with them in a more meaningful way.

NRECA has partnered with the Institute for Health and Human Potential (IHHP) to offer this self-paced, on-demand course.
