Overview

Inclusivity is the practice of radical hospitality, where all people experience uncompromising respect and dignity. Inclusive organizations value and actively encourage multiple experiences and perspectives, creating a positive, collaborative environment in which people feel safe to be themselves and can contribute their best work to the organization.

It is essential to examine our own practices in the context of organizations and a society where the “isms” are deeply rooted. We are the instruments of change — the more we are aware of and understand our own filters, assumptions, power and privilege, the greater chance we can use our energy and wisdom to facilitate positive social change and leave a legacy different than the one we inherited.

Learning Objectives

The goals of this course are to create a safe forum to engage in self-reflection and dialogue with others about inclusivity. Participants will:

  • Explore how your life experiences and assumptions shape your understanding of and actions toward inclusivity.
  • Discover commonalities and differences between social identities and experiences of the “isms”.
  • Examine how unconscious bias leads to unintentional exclusion of others.
  • Gain insights into the costs and benefits of privilege.
  • Differentiate between non-discriminatory and inclusive behaviors.
