Upcoming MIP Cohorts

Overview

One of our best programs is now even better.

For more than 55 years, the Management Internship Program has served as the cornerstone for how electric cooperatives invest in their next generation of senior leaders — and it remains one of the most respected leadership development programs in the industry.

MIP is designed for managers, directors, and vice presidents at electric co-ops who are ready to think and operate at the executive level.

Over four weeks of intensive in-person programming, participants build the strategic, financial, operational, and interpersonal capabilities that define influential cooperative leadership — alongside peers from co-ops across the country, forming professional relationships that last well beyond the program.

The curriculum reflects today’s challenges and opportunities, the instructors are practitioners, and the experience is unlike anything else in the industry.

FEATURED EXPERIENCES
Some of the most valued moments in MIP come from direct access to sitting electric co-op CEOs. Three sessions place participants in candid, high-level conversation with current co-op chief executives:

  • CEO Real Talk—An unfiltered look at co-op leadership from the people living it. On the first day of the program, current CEOs share what they wish they'd known, what keeps them up at night, and what they're watching on the horizon.
  • Executive Presence—Learn what it takes to command a room, earn trust and lead at the top—from executives who do it every day.
  • CEO & Board Management—A practical, honest conversation about one of the most important leadership relationships in the cooperative model, taught by those who navigate it firsthand.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
What you'll take back to your co-op

MIP strengthens your knowledge, skills and perspective to lead with greater confidence and impact. Through a curriculum spanning strategic leadership, cooperative finance, operations, human resources, member services and more, you will:

  • Build a holistic understanding of electric co-op operations—from power supply and engineering to rates, legal, and member services.
  • Develop the executive-level leadership skills your co-op needs, including financial acumen, performance management, and effective communication.
  • Strengthen your self-awareness as a leader—understanding your style, identifying your strengths, and targeting your areas for development.
  • Engage directly with CEOs and industry experts on the challenges and opportunities facing electric co-ops today.
  • Demonstrate your learning through real-world presentations and collaborative exercises with a cohort of peers from across the country.

Who Should Participate

MIP is geared toward high-potential cooperative people leaders in key leadership roles (department leaders, executive leadership and CEOs/GMs) in NRECA member cooperatives.
