Overview

Tabletop exercises are a useful tool for testing and building response skills and plans to prepare for a cybersecurity incident before it happens. NRECA will host a live, facilitated online tabletop exercise (TTX) designed specifically to address cyber incident response planning in the cooperative space. Conducted in collaboration with Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI), this 4-hour online TTX is intended to provide participants with the opportunity to exercise a Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan by being exposed to realistic injects. This is a great follow-on opportunity for those who attended NRECA’s Cyber Incident Response Plan Development Workshop in April 2022, but is also a great opportunity for co-ops who are just starting to build their plans.

Registration Closes: February 23, 2023

Who Should Attend

NRECA voting members from across all levels of the co-op are invited to register to participate in this free exercise. This exercise is suitable for all levels of participants but will focus primarily on those new to exercises and Incident Response Plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Provides an opportunity for individuals to participate in a virtual TTX and examine their Incident Response Plans and identify gap areas in a professionally guided virtual environment.

  • Apply lessons learned in NRECA's Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan Development Workshop.

  • Collaborate with peers from across the co-op network to explore your readiness to respond and mitigate a cyberattack.

About this Exercise
  • This TTX is designed to simulate a realistic scenario that would impact core business functions of a rural electric co-op and focuses on our capabilities to detect, identify, protect, respond and recover from an attack.

  • The scenario will be specific enough to trigger the activation, and support further development and maturing, of a co-op Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan.

Accessing the Tabletop Exercise

We will be using MS Teams and NUARI's DECIDE® platform for this TTX. To participate in the Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan Tabletop Exercise, you will need the following:

  • A computer or mobile device with high-speed internet access.

  • Preferred browsers are Chrome, Edge, Firefox. Use of older IE versions, Safari or tablets may impact functionality.

  • Computer speakers or headphones.

Any additional technical requirements will be sent prior to the event. Consider checking with your IT specialist about any possible issues with the above requirements.

Additional Cybersecurity Resources
  • Co-op Cyber Goals Program
NRECA's Co-op Cyber Goals Program outlines 10 cybersecurity goals aimed at helping co-ops implement fundamental measures to establish a basic level of cybersecurity. By attending this TTX, your co-op can take a step toward completing GOAL 9: Cyber Incident Response Plan: A Cyber Incident Response Plan is developed and exercised in a tabletop scenario for common cooperative relevant scenarios. • Cybersecurity Self-Assessment
NRECA's RC3 Self-Assessment tool (available in online and hardcopy versions), will help co-ops understand their cybersecurity posture. Results of the self-assessment can be used by the co-op to prioritize mitigation actions and develop a cybersecurity action plan for their organization. Learn more.
