Distribution transformers are a critical component of the utility infrastructure which delivers reliable electricity to consumers. Ongoing changes in the environment in which the electric industry operates make diagnostic techniques for distribution transformers increasingly important.

NEETRAC extensively reviewed existing and potential diagnostic assessment methods applicable for distribution transformer condition assessment, and the challenges utilities face to ensure the reliability of their distribution transformers. Furthermore, this project also conducted a technical review to assess the effectiveness and suitability of diagnostic techniques applicable to distribution transformers before and after deployment.

This project showed that conventional diagnostic techniques and condition assessment technologies can potentially enhance the asset management of distribution transformers.
