In December 2022, U.S. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., launched a national oversight effort of federal broadband programs. He sent a letter to a broad group of stakeholders, including NRECA, requesting input on the current broadband regulatory landscape and federal programs. On Jan. 6, 2023, NRECA submitted a robust response to his oversight effort, sharing the cooperative perspective on federal broadband programs as well as providing suggestions for how to make improvements, ensuring that these programs are flexible and able to meet current and future needs of rural communities.
