​​​​​​​​​​​​​NRECA’s most recent analysis of the cooperative retail fuel mix shows that after a decline of U.S. retail electric sales in 2020 due to COVID-19, the reopening economy rebounded retail sales in 2021. Shifts in the co-op retail fuel mix followed national trends. Coal was the largest source of power for co-ops, and the share of renewable resources in the cooperative fuel mix set a new record.
