There are a number of challenges associated with the increased penetration of Distributed Generation (DG) in distribution circuits – one of them is the danger associated with creating unintentional islands. Islanding refers to the condition in which the DG is isolated on a portion of the electric power system and operates as an "island" that is separated from the area electric power system.
