NRECA's Serve Our Co-ops, Serve Our Country closes out its third year next month as a coalition that now includes 154 co-ops across 34 states. Since its inception in January 2016, more than 70 veterans have found employment at an electric cooperative.

"We've had very strong and increasing interest in the program since its creation," says Michelle Rostom, NRECA's Veteran Initiative program director. "My goal over the next year is making sure our nation's veterans, active military, and their spouses know about co-op careers and how to find our jobs."

Serve Our Co-ops, Serve Our Country works to raise national awareness among military veterans about employment opportunities at electric co-ops and provides co-ops with resources to attract, hire, onboard, and retain veteran employees.

On Veterans Day (November 12), the program will lead a social media campaign to recognize and honor veterans who are employed at co-ops across the country. Co-ops are also encouraged to sponsor or engage in local veterans events during November.

"Many co-ops also find a way to recognize veterans in their workforce or their membership.," Rostom says. "We encourage all co-ops to participate this year."
