How did you learn about this position?
My brother was working as a meter lab tech and spoke with an MSR at the job about the role. He later called me and said, “Hey sis, I have the perfect job for you." I immediately applied and was offered the position shortly afterwards.
What about the role made you feel it was the right fit?
This role allows me to be my authentic self. I enjoy helping others. Being able to learn about the job and our members and apply these lessons to assist others is the best thing for me. I can adjust to any position, but being able to just be myself is what assured me this was a great fit.
What do you like most about working for an electric co-op?
Working for an electric co-op is deeply rewarding because it combines purpose-driven work with a strong sense of community. It creates a collaborative environment where I feel that I am truly valued and connected with the members that I serve.
What does a meaningful day at work look like for you?
A meaningful day looks like assisting the members by answering the phone to assist with billing questions, starting and ending services, assisting with payments, and ensuring that I handle each interaction with patience, empathy and knowledge. I try to make sure that I leave each member feeling heard, supported and valued.
What's something you've learned about co-ops since joining that surprised or inspired you?
I did not know that co-ops are non-profit and member-owned. I love how they aren't just focused on making a profit, but more so focused on ensuring that our members are made top priority.
How do you hope to make a long-term impact in your role?
I plan to make an impact by ensuring I create a positive and lasting experiences for members and focus on being empathetic, efficient and empowering.
Any advice you'd share with someone just starting at a co-op?
Be prepared to be treated like family. From my experience, everyone sticks together, from the coworkers to the members. I love the family-oriented environment.
