​​​In 2018, a group of safety professionals from the NUTSEA G&T safety roundtable formed a team to measure and address potential generation plant exposures related to Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIFs). Fourteen G&Ts participated.

To help identify sources of SIF exposure, the team collected SIF event data and determined the primary exposure to SIFs at generation sites occurred when utilizing Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.

Based on the findings, the team developed this guide to assist co-ops in the review and evaluation of their current plant LOTO practices. It is not intended to be a comprehensive detailed review of LOTO procedures. Instead, it provides findings and guidance to assist co-ops when considering improvements.
