NRECA filed comments Thursday on the Federal Communications Commission's Open Internet proceeding. In the proceeding, the agency invited comments on “net neutrality" rules for internet service providers, and on expanding the commission's regulatory authority over broadband internet access service and the addition of more stringent regulations on providers.

NRECA's comments support rules preventing the blocking, throttling or prioritizing of internet traffic while noting that our members do not engage in those practices. The comments expressed concern about the imposition of overly burdensome regulation for small internet service providers and how it could divert investment in broadband expansion. NRECA encouraged the commission to consider targeted compliance exemptions for small entities, such as co-ops.
