​On January 28, 2022, NRECA filed comments with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to advocate on behalf of electric cooperatives and the communities they serve as EPA shapes a new $2.5 billion Clean School Bus Program to fund zero-emission buses for school districts across the country. NRECA urged EPA to (1) ensure co-ops are part of the planning process for any projects funded by EPA because of potential grid impacts and (2) to prioritize funding for rural and underserved communities so they can enjoy the lifecycle cost and public health benefits these buses can provide.​
