​On September 3, 2019, the Department of Energy responded to a July 16 letter NRECA sent to DoE Secretary Perry informing him of the potential impact of the 6 GHz proposal on electric reliability and urging the agency to weigh in with the FCC. DoE responded by sending letters to FCC Chairman Pai and Diane Rinaldo, Acting Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration expressing concern with an FCC proposal to open the 6 GHz spectrum band, which is heavily used by utilities, to unlicensed usage.
