NRECA, along with the American Public Power Association, the Edison Electric Institute, the Electricity Consumers Resource Council, and the Large Public Power Council, submitted comments to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in response to its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) on the Geomagnetic Disturbance Reliability Standard. FERC has proposed to approve a revised standard put forth by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), but also to direct NERC to make further changes to address more localized effects on grid reliability stemming from geomagnetic disturbance events. The comments ask FERC to approve the revised standard but not require NERC to develop further changes at this time given that industry first needs to gain experience with the current standard.
