NRECA filed comments with the USDA Forest Service on the Pesticide Use Proposal (PUP) process, urging the agency to consider ways to modify the process to make it easier for co-ops to obtain PUP approvals. We have members that have never pursued the use of the Pesticide-Use Proposal due to the perceived difficulty in obtaining the authorizations, despite operational, maintenance, and cost benefits of safe application of pesticides or herbicides as proven by years of use elsewhere on the transmission system.
