For decades, NRECA has worked to ensure that electric cooperatives have access to comprehensive, flexible and affordable health insurance programs for employees and their dependents. Electric cooperatives provide health insurance benefits to more than 100,000 employees, retirees and their families. Electric cooperatives stand with more than 180 million Americans with employer-sponsored health coverage seeking to repeal the “Cadillac Tax” on health benefits.

Taxing any part of co-op employee's health care benefits will leave electric cooperative families with less comprehensive health coverage, many at higher costs. No cooperative, whether they get health insurance through NRECA's benefit plans or from another source, should be penalized for doing the right thing for their employees. Electric co-ops have modest health care plans, but their employees typically live in rural communities where limited access can drive the cost disproportionately higher than in urban areas.
