On August 8, 2016 a federal court ruled for the first time on the legality of the Obama

administration's estimated “social cost of carbon.” This ruling, which was related to a

challenge of a commercial refrigeration appliance standard, represents the most

significant affirmation of the federal government’s practice of using the social cost of

carbon (SCC) in federal rulemakings moving forward.
