​This report looks at early-stage, utility-scale battery energy storage (BES) projects deployed in the United States since 2015 and discusses the applications they are serving and rationale for their use. It also examines electric cooperative-led BES and outlines trends in wholesale power markets and regulatory initiatives expected to significantly increase the amount of BES over the next decade.
