NEETRAC PROJECT #: 14-225
Date Closed: May 2016
This Project investigates additional possible issues with accessory fault current initiation caused by:
- The relatively common practice of using 15 kVrms rated accessories on system operating at 4.3 kVrms because components rated for the lower voltages are unavailable, and
- The effect of changes in elbow installation resulting from the use of faulted circuit indicators (FCIs).
Several additional issues with the current edition of the IEEE 592 standard should be considered by the working group in revising this standard, including:
- Acceptable tolerances for the fault current magnitude and duration
- X/R ration used for the fault initiation tests
- Fault initiation test sample construction details
