The Class 8 EV Visualizer is a screening and outreach tool designed to help electric cooperatives identify commercial and industrial members that may be candidates for future electric fleet charging. It visualizes one year of Class 8 truck stop data sourced from Daimler Truck North America, which represents approximately 40% of the U.S. Class 8 market. Class 8 trucks are the largest category of heavy-duty trucks in the U.S., with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 33,000 pounds. This class includes tractor-trailers, cement mixers, dump trucks, and other heavy freight vehicles. By mapping where trucks are currently stopping and for how long, the tool provides a clear picture of freight activity patterns within cooperative service territories.
This tool is built to support key account representatives, economic development staff, and member engagement teams. It is not a forecasting or system planning tool. Rather, it is a practical resource that helps co-ops answer:
- Where are freight trucks currently stopping in our territory?
- Which member sites are located nearby?
- Who should we be talking to about fleet electrification, facility upgrades, or load changes?
Note: The Class 8 EV Visualizer is for NRECA members only and requires an Agreement to access. You will be provided the Agreement through the link below.
