NRECA first participated in 2017 and every year since. This marks our 5th year as Champions. In prior years, we have:
1. Engaged departments across NRECA to identify opportunities for NRECA and our members to engage with CSAM.
2. Signed on as a Champion to support CSAM and to ensure our members have access to the official information and materials available through the event.
3. NRECA Organized engagement or awareness events held in prior years including, but not limited to:
i. In 2020, we put together and held the first distributed play cyber incident exercise built for and with co-ops. We will be conducting another exercise, CyberSEEC, for 2021.
ii. For all years as Champion, we provide ongoing communications with our members through emails, newsletters, articles, videos, and other tactics to share available information, tools and resources.
iii. In
2018, NRECA and Alaska Power Association held an “Emerging Priorities in Energy Research Day” in Alaska with Senator Murkowski. The event included an RC3 Summit and Cyber Security workshop in conjunction with NCSA.
iv. In
2017, we held an “Insights on Cybersecurity for Electric Utilities” forum at NRECA jointly with DHS and NCSA, with speakers from DHS, NRECA, DOE, FTC followed by a closed workshop for utility staff only, and a subsequent RC3 Summit.
v. Briefings in Washington, DC during October to educate and inform legislators and regulators about the security posture in the electric sector.
