Henderson Municipal Power & Light (HMP&L) is seeking a Substation Technician.

Minimum requirements include: residency in Kentucky within a defined distance from HMP&L; high school diploma or GED supplemented by vocation/technical training in substation operation and maintenance; minimum 5 years previous industrial experience and training involving electric system troubleshooting, maintenance and repair, including high voltage systems, as well as mechanical training in hydraulic and mechanical operating systems; familiarity with computers; strong communication and troubleshooting skills; understanding of electrical theory; must be able to read and interpret schematics and instruction manuals; ability to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; must pass a drug/alcohol screen, physical exam, and background check upon conditional offer of employment; possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no DUI convictions in the previous 5 years.

Preferred requirements include: associate degree in electrical engineering technology or related field; electrical apprenticeship or a journeyman electrician certificate; experience in high voltage utility transmission and distribution substations (13.8, 69, & 161 kV) maintenance and troubleshooting functions; experience with SCADA systems and medium voltage switchgear. Starting annual wage is contingent upon experience, and includes paid vacation, sick leave, health benefits, and other benefits.
