Engineer I
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
This is entry-level professional work providing engineering support in one of the following assigned areas of responsibility: Distribution Engineering, Power Delivery, Power Supply, System Planning, or Dispatch & Compliance. The incumbent will be responsible for performing basic engineering work within the assigned area of responsibility involved in the planning, design and operation of the electric utility. Tasks will vary depending on the area in which the incumbent is assigned. Re-assignment to another area of responsibility may occur whenever necessary as needed to meet the needs of the Utility. Work is performed under the close supervision of a designated supervisor and is checked upon completion for technical proficiency and adherence to standard practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
Engineer II
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
This is advanced professional work providing engineering support in one or more of the following assigned areas of responsibility: Distribution Engineering, Power Delivery, Power Supply, System Planning, or Dispatch & Compliance. The incumbent will be responsible for performing engineering work within the assigned area of responsibility involved in the planning, design and operation of the electric utility. Tasks will vary depending on the area in which the incumbent is assigned. Re-assignment to another area of responsibility may occur whenever necessary as needed to meet the needs of the Utility. The duties allow for a wide latitude of independent action, judgement and decision making with minimal direction and supervision. Work is checked upon completion for technical proficiency and adherence to standard practices by a designated supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and ten (10) years of engineering experience in one or more of the electric utility operational areas. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida is desirable.
Senior Engineer
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
This is highly responsible advanced engineering and administrative work providing engineering support in one or more of the following assigned areas of responsibility: Distribution Engineering, Power Delivery, Power Supply, System Planning, or Dispatch & Compliance. An incumbent is considered to be a subject matter expert in the assigned area and is responsible for complex technical engineering work or administrative work such as design engineering, safety engineering services, complex engineering studies and analysis, training support, project management, quality assurance, budgeting, purchasing, operation/maintenance of electric utility facilities or systems. Work is performed under the general direction of a division manager/supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and ten (10) years of engineering experience in one or more of the electric utility operational areas. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida is desirable.
Engineer I, Engineer II, or Senior Engineer
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid State of Florida Class E driver's license at time of appointment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
May be required to work outside of normal working hours during system outages, emergency situations or during assigned projects.
Individuals in this classification are considered essential during emergency and storm situations and must be able to work up to 16 hours per day for extended periods of time.
If assigned to Power Delivery (Relay), must be able to distinguish between red and green colors to safely wire, test, and commission protection systems and read circuit diagrams.
