On February 16, NRECA filed comments with the FCC’s Broadband Data Task Force on its Broadband Data Collection challenge processes. In our response to the task force’s request for input on both the availability and location challenge processes and how well they are working, NRECA focused on four main points:

  • Providers should not be permitted to recharacterize mobile service as fixed wireless service.

  • The Commission should allow submission of challenge data relating to the quality (including speed and latency) of fixed internet access service.

  • The Commission should approve additional speed test applications.

  • Current fabric data of broadband serviceable locations, alongside state broadband data, and other data, is fragmented and confusing and the differences in separate datasets needs to be resolved.
