New CFO Orientation

Designed to familiarize new chief financial officers of electric cooperatives with their national associations and resources available to support them and their systems.

Co-sponsored by NRECA, CFC, NRTC and Federated, the New CFO Orientation is designed for new chief financial officers of electric cooperatives with no more than two years of experience in their current position. Invitees can also include those who hold the titles of "directors of finance" or "controller" or other title of individuals that hold a position equivalent to that of a CFO for their cooperative.

Interactive sessions provide a detailed overview of programs and services that help new CFOs successfully address cooperative finance, regulatory, and accounting issues affecting their jobs and the electric cooperative network.

NOTE: This orientation is for the senior financial officer of your electric cooperative.

This event takes place at the CFC's campus in Dulles, VA, and a day at the NRECA offices in Arlington, VA.

The Pre-Conference Workshop "The Four Transitions of the CFO" will take place in-person at the CFC Campus on Monday, May 16, from 1:30 - 5:00 pm ET.

New CFO Orientation Workshop - The Four Transitions of the New CFO

Monday, May 16 – 1:30 – 5:00 pm

Sitting in the CFO chair is different than any other chair you’ve sat in before. Yes, you have been successful in the past and it is because of that success that you have been chosen for the CFO role. But now the accolades are past, and the moving boxes are unpacked, and now you are trying to become the leader your co-op hired you to be. To make that happen there are four major transitions that you must make successfully. During this action-packed, practical and engaging online session Master Trainer & Coach Guy Harris will explain these four transitions:

  • The Transition of Relationships
  • The Transition of Skills
  • The Transition of Mindset
  • The Transition of Perspective
You will leave with more than an awareness of these transitions, but rather a deep understanding of how navigating these transitions will help you be more successful, and how to get started in doing exactly that. Here is an outline of what will be covered in the workshop:

  • What it means to lead
  • A complete picture of your new role
  • Introduction to the Four Transitions
  • The Relationship Transition
  • The Skills Transition
  • The Mindset Transition
  • The Perspective Transition
  • Lessons and Application
  • Action planning (putting this to work for you)
