Cloverland Electric Cooperative (CEC) was founded in 1938. In 2010, the cooperative doubled in size through the acquisition of Edison Sault Electric Company. CEC now maintains local control of the hydroelectric plant in Sault Ste. Marie. Today, the company serves approximately 42,000 accounts, including electric service to more islands than any other cooperative in the nation, and an annual operating budget of $72 million. CEC's mission is "focused on being environmentally responsible while providing exceptional service to its members through the delivery of safe, reliable and affordable electricity."

The President and CEO will report directly to the Board of Directors, lead 113 dedicated and talented employees, and serve the Cooperative's members in five counties in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan.  The successful candidate will have a record of success in an electric utility, be able to implement proactive plans, and be committed both to the community (and the U.P. lifestyle) and to the electric cooperative philosophy. Specific expectations for the next CEO are strong financial acumen, understands regulatory issues, adept in community and governmental relations, media and technology skills, and solid operations skillset.

Cloverland is seeking an effective administrator who can implement good ideas and plans; a strategic thinker who seizes opportunities and takes advantage of trends, a decisive manager able to make tough decisions, and a collaborative leader who empowers staff. The qualities of character desired in the President and CEO include integrity; high energy, team builder, down-to-earth, effective listener, visionary, and persuasive communicator. A bachelor's degree required; a master's degree preferred.

Cloverland headquarters is in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on the St. Marys River connecting Lake Superior to Lake Huron and blocks from the Soo Locks. The Upper Peninsula is a pristine environment with abundant hunting, fishing, swimming, hiking, skiing and other outdoor activities. The Soo is home to Lake Superior State University a four-time collegiate Hockey national champion. The friendly community of 15,000 is across the International Bridge from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with its 75,000 residents.
