A new technology is available for improved operation of the transmission grid, providing better control of power flow on existing lines. Since 2007, a project team supported by NRECA's Cooperative Research Network (CRN) has been working to develop this new solution for electric utilities - Smart Wires, a distributed flow control for enhanced energy routing.
During this session, Tom Lovas, CRN technical liaison on transmission and substation assets, and guests Charlie Gloeckner, founder and managing director Firmitas LLC; and Frank Kreikebaum, senior engineer, Smart Wire Grid LLC, discussed the technology, opportunities for co-ops to use it and more.
